If you’re working from home, you’re likely spending a good amount of time at your desk without your usual yoga class to work out those tight muscles and kinks. If you’re like us, you’re dreaming of your next massage or foot rub.

Reiki is a form of traditional kind of ‘energy healing’ that emerged from Japan in the 1800’s. The idea is that a ‘Reiki Master’ transfers energy through their hands into the person receiving it. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

We know, it sounds a little wooo wooo but stay with us because we were skeptical at first too.

For our first reiki session we simply lay down on a massage table while our Reiki Master floated their hands above different parts of our body. It was extremely relaxing and we could feel the heat from the palms of their hands on the different body parts in which they were focusing on.

It was downright delightful. The soothing, relaxing, and calming feeling lasted all day. And we’re not alone, it’s estimated that as of 2007 over 60 hospitals offered reiki to its patients.

Advocates say that Reiki can treat illnesses, pain, and emotional pain. And it can be done over long distances as well which is perfect for the many of us staying home right now. Many claim that reiki reduces stress, aids with inflammation, and enables spiritual growth.

Studies have shown that it can reduce some pain but there are no conclusive studies showing it can fight illnesses. The Reiki Association says that Reiki can also be soothing and comforting for animals and children.

So if you’re missing your massages or having trouble meditating, why not give Reiki a try?
