If you’re finding self-care difficult right now, you’re not alone. Experts have even warned that there will be an ‘echo pandemic’ of mental illness once this COVID-19 pandemic is over. Many of us are dealing with being inside all day and are doing our best to release stress and anxiety but we’re not going to argue that it’s a lot harder without being able to visit friends and family and give them a big hug.
But one thing that has really helped us personally is tapping meditation and we’re not alone. Do a quick google search and you’ll find thousands of guided tapping meditations, books, and online courses.
So what is tapping meditation (also called Emotional Freedom Tapping/EFT) and how does it work?
The idea of EFT is that you tap on certain pressure points of your body while thinking or saying aloud what’s bothering you. It might sound airy-fairy but studies have shown that it is effective in decreasing stress and anxiety.
We actually find it much easier to do consistently than regular meditation because the idea isn’t to clear your mind of thoughts but to say aloud what is scaring you followed by affirmations of love and acceptance.
Here’s how you do it:
You can find an example of how to do your own tapping meditation here.
You might feel silly and self-conscious but who cares if it works right? And what we love about it is that it costs nothing to try and you’ve got nothing to lose!
